This is a delicious treat smoothie. We made this one midwinter day while the kiddos were recovering from a flu, and it went down nice and easy 🙂 it’s great anytime of year as a treat. The key is to have nice ripe bananas. Frozen ones can work too – if you don’t thaw them you’ll wind up with raspberry ice cream! Or you can let them partially thaw (raspberries too) for a nice smoothie.

Raspberry smoothies
If you are having this late in the day, you could always add some coconut milk to replace the water for more creaminess (and maybe add a couple more dates to keep it nice and sweet!) If you are following Medical Medium, he advocates keeping fats to a dull roar until late in the day. That said, he does recommend coconut milk for it’s high nutrition. And you could always swap the water for coconut water for taste / healing properties. If you’re curious to know more, here’s an excerpt from his blog – he talks about it at length in the context of a curry recipe 😉 https://www.medicalmedium.com/blog/coconut-curry
Raspberry Banana Dessert Smoothie
Equipment
- 1 high speed blender
Ingredients
- 4 large ripe bananas the spottier the better for sweetness and creaminess (if they're a bit green you'll need extra dates and water to compensate)
- approximately 400 g frozen raspberries gives that bright tartness and thick, icy texture
- 3 fresh dates or dried Medjool dates — pit them first; use 4 if you want it even sweeter
- About 2 cups water a little less keeps it sweet and thick; add a bit more and blitz your smoothie for a couple seconds if it isn’t pourable!
Instructions
- Peel the bananas and break them into chunks.
- Pit the dates.
- Add everything to a high-speed blender: bananas, frozen raspberries, dates, and water.
- Blend on high until super smooth and creamy (30–60 seconds usually does it). Scrape down the sides if needed and add a splash more water if it’s too thick.
- Pour into glasses (or fun kid cups!) and enjoy right away while it’s cold and frosty. If for some reason you wind up with leftovers, pour them into a popsicle mold and save them for later!
